Nursery Weekly Blog - 24/03/2023
Busy, busy, busy in Nursery this week.
Our story this week is “The Magic Porridge Pot” We have had lots of fun using porridge oats to scoop, pour and fill with. This story has helped us to focus on language such as more, lots, too much.
In addition, we have shared the story “We’re Going on an Egg Hunt”
We have played a transport sounds listening game as part of our phonics learning. We continue to practice name recognition using the coat pegs in the clock room and the white board. We have used musical instruments to talk about fast and slow, loud and quite and to talk about what different types of music make us feel.
We have been using a range of construction materials to build with – thinking about how we can create all different types of buildings using different shapes and size of resources.
We have been practicing ball skills – rolling, throwing and catching large and small balls with a partner and in small groups.
We have planted some herbs and can’t wait to see, smell and taste these once they have grown. We are remembering to water these regularly alongside our pepper plants.
We have practiced turn taking skills by playing an Easter match game and ball games.
Fine motor skills continue to be developed, especially during “Funky Fingers” we have used tongs with dried pasta and pop poms, pine cones with wool, nuts and bolts and peg boards to practice these skills.
We have watched a short film about a boy preparing for Easter, eating hot cross buns, looking after baby chicks, helping to create an Easter garden in Church and going on an egg hunt. We have started to make Easter cards, which will be going home next week.
We have used small world and the home corner to act out these ideas and to think about how we spend special times with our own families at home.
Nursery has begun to be decorated with some fantastic Easter and spring themed colouring. Which the children have been eager for the main school to look at when they are in the playground.
We continue to have lots of fun when using paints, playdough, construction, stories and mark making and so much more.
We paid a visit to the school Library, which is something that we all enjoy. We shared stories together and swapped the books we borrowed last week for some new ones.
We have already begun our preparations for the Coronation in May, with some new songs to be learnt.
Next week we will be continuing our Easter preparations.
