Happy New Year to all of our families. It has been wonderful to welcome you all back and to welcome some new faces too. This week has also seen us welcome Laura, our new grown up into Nursery. We have had some lovely news time when the children have had the chance to share with the group their Christmas experiences and the .
Our focus text this week has been “Guess How Much I Love You”. We have used this as the basis for discussions about people who are special to us, this has been further supported by the children sharing their news about the Christmas holidays.
We have had a busy first week back, with lots of activities to enjoy. This has included mark making with paint, sand and large brushes in buckets of water. This week the Unlocking Letters and Sounds focus has been a Household Sounds listening game. The children have completed this activity in small groups with an adult. Our book corner has a wide variety of stories based on the theme Winter/Night and Day.
During our PE session, we have been able to make good use of our new tunnels which were a gift from Father Christmas, this was in addition to benches and mats, tactile stepping stones and hula hoops. We also we able to follow a Guess How Much I Love You? yoga session.
We have played mitten matching games and a night and day sorting game and counting blocks in a tower. We have used the story to focus on mathematical language such as up, down, big, small, tall and short. We have used a wide variety of shape and colour-based sorting games and puzzles.
In addition, we have played a sorting game with healthy and unhealthy food. This was extended by the children looking through catalogues and cutting out pictures of food. The children were able to use this activity to discuss their likes and dislikes, family meal times, colour, taste and much more.
On a daily basis, we continue with our wake and shake sessions, sand trays, free painting, wheeled toys in the garden, a wide variety of puzzles, mark making resources, construction and much more.
We look forward to another exciting week to come!
